A dune is a mound of sand formed by the wind, they grow as grains of sand accumulate. Every dune has a windward side and a slipface.
In this painting, I compare the course of life to dunes. As we grow and mature, we accumulate knowledge, experience, wisdom, awareness, etc. Like the slipface of a dune, it is important that we let go of the things that no loner serve us, make us happy or that are simply no longer relevant to our life.
Like the dunes, we have to be willing to change and move with life instead of resisting it. I also like that the sand is constantly shifting from one dune to another. I think it's a poetic way of thinking about the way we influence each other and about how we can give others parts of ourselves.
It's a painting about community and connection.
